Objectives
The purpose of this module is to expose students to the fundamental drivers of fashion style and taste that influence trends with a sound understanding of relevant fashion and design theories in order to communicate fashion stylesLearning outcomes
On completion of this module the student will be able to:
- Demonstrate an awareness and understanding of the driving forces of fashion past and present
- Identify styles, colours, fabrics / pattern trends in fashion related products and environments
- Demonstrate a critical understanding of the integration and affects of technologies, lifestyles and other influences on fashion styling past and present
Syllabus
This module assists students in developing a strong sense of fashion and style through awareness and research techniques and knowledge of key aspects including the driving forces of fashion including technological developments and advancements, retailing and marketing influences, influential people and events in relation to the availability of materials. Popular design styles past and present of a range of fashion-related products including apparel will be explored through evaluations of fashion history, style & taste and colour, design and fashion theories. The integration of technologies and lifestyle demands on fashion styling will be emphasised and students will be able to discuss fashion styles in an intellectual manner.

Re-sit for groupwork as an individual piece of work – 20% Max 2000 words Individual creative report reflecting on the process the the group had undertaken in order to achieve the group report. This should include a discussion of what worked well and what could have worked better with some recommendations for future practice. The student should also reflect on what their own personal contribution to the project and why they feel the group-work obtained a low mark.
