Objectives
On completion of this module, students should:- be aware of up-to-date developments, hypotheses and controversies in biological sciences;
- have developed scientific and data-handling skills in the analysis and interpretation of experimental data and the construction and arguments;
- have developed the ability to express themselves clearly during oral and written presentations to both scientific and lay
audiences.
Learning outcomes
On completion of the module students will be able to:
- Source, select, use and evaluate information to answer questions and solve problems;
- analyse, interpret and present data;
- work effectively in a group to complete tasks;
- communicate information clearly and coherently orally and in writing.
Syllabus
- Students will participate in group exercises: a series of general themes of topical importance to their degree programme will be considered.
- Students will attend seminars given by both academic staff and guest lecturers, which will address recent developments in microbial immunity.
- Students should develop problem-solving skills and will be taught how to present their work orally. They will also participate in careers workshops and sessions to improve their interview/self-presentation skills.
