Objectives

This module aims to foster a broad appreciation of the context of contemporary fashion and to identify and establish a particular work and direction for creative fashion innovation and enterprise. Students are encouraged to conduct individual and independent lines of practical and contextual research and enquiry in order that they may formulate appropriate and diverse design solutions. Students should also identify individual and appropriate business opportunities in the fashion industry and develop strategies for personal involvement. A financial and business case study will form part of this module as well as a negotiated final exhibition.

Learning outcomes
On completion of this module, students should have provided evidence of being able to:
- research independent areas of interest in relation to the development of contemporary fashion innovation and enterprise;
- demonstrate individual & creative expertise within stated commercial parameters;
- show evidence of flexibility, resourcefulness, self-discipline and motivation;
- plan, manage and execute individual schedules;
- organise appropriate financial and business strategies;
-organise and execute negotiated final exhibition.


Syllabus

This module is principally concerned with a broad appreciation of contemporary fashion innovation and enterprise, which reflects a total individual concept, underpinned by original practical and contextual research. This module is not project based; therefore after negotiation and agreement with tutors, students will provide a 1,000-word study proposal that outlines their intentions, accompanied by a comprehensive time management plan.

The ability to sustain a theme by working within clearly defined global, societal and commercial parameters, are all essential elements of this module.

Where possible students are encouraged to endorse industrial relevance by researching existing global innovations. Strategic links with industry will be developed and fostered.
An important aspect is the ability to examine the subject area within a wider context and show an informed understanding of relevant sociological, cultural, technical and commercial aspects. This module will reward future thought and development in innovative and creative practice, whether this be ecological, technological or ethical based.
The module will culminate with a negotiated final exhibition
