Module summary
Chinese cinema enjoyed its 100th anniversary in 2006. This module offers students the opportunity to see some challenging films from the early days up to the 21st century. Focusing on Chinese life and society, Western cinema's influence and Chinese cultural traditions, this module will help students gain a more sophisticated understanding of both the Chinese society and Chinese cinema at the end of the course. No knowledge of Chinese language is required as all films have English subtitles. The module is taught with lectures, seminars, practicals and film screenings, and examined by seminar contribution and a 2,000 word essay. For further information see the East Asian Studies websiteObjectives
