- develop the social/personal/transferable skills necessary for gaining maximum benefit from living in a different community;
- seek to enhance their future employability by familiarizing themselves, when appropriate, with the world of work within the target culture, or by reflecting on the utility of skills that they are acquiring while living abroad for their future employment.

Learning outcomes
By the end of their Year Abroad students should be able to:
- communicate fluently and appropriately, demonstrating a high degree of grammatical accuracy in the target language

- use language creatively and communicate information and ideas
- demonstrate self-reliance and adaptability in developing an awareness and understanding of a culture and society other than their own
- exercise personal responsibility and decision making.

Syllabus

Students should make themselves familiar with the requirements for the year abroad as laid out in EAS Year Abroad specifications and in the Year Abroad contract. These documents are dispensed at the year abroad meetings (level 1) and are also available online.
