Module summary

The module supports learners to demonstrate how independent learning can impact on professional practice. Learners will identify an area of interest that is central to their personal and professional development. They will engage in a process of reflection, reading and writing to produce evidence of personal learning.

Objectives

Learners will be able to identify their learning needs, to produce and learning contract, to manage learning resources and engage in critical reflection.

Learning outcomes
On completion of this module students will:
- generate a learning contract and own learning resources
- examine an appropriate subject in depth
- critically appraise the chosen subject from a range of theoretical perspectives
- discuss the implications for own practice of the chosen subject.

Syllabus

Students will be expected to generate their own learning contract and agree with the appointed academic supervisor. This will include the identification of objectives for their study, key resources and planned actions in meeting objectives. Students will select a topic/subject from their own discipline in which they will develop a critical appraisal of key issues inherent and discuss from a range of theoretical perspectives.

Application of knowledge/topic/subject to own discipline will be highlighted and defended. As part of the process of developing their learning contract, students will develop their own reading list for the module.
