Module summary
The 'made in Italy' label lies at the heart of post-war Italy economic success and cultural identity. Combining a rich cultural heritage with innovation, Italian products are globally renowned for their quality and their distinctive design. Also, thanks to the unique cultural and natural resources of its territory, Italy has a leading role globally in the tourist, food and wine industry.This module aims at introducing students to specialized uses of Italian for business and at giving them an overview of the Italian business culture and economy. By focusing on different economic sectors and themes, this module also explores the interaction between Italian economy, politics, culture, society and the environment. This module is taught over one semester with weekly lectures and seminars. It is taught in Italian, and therefore suitable for students with an advanced knowledge of the language.Objectives
- To provide an introduction to business culture in contemporary Italy- To acquaint students with the specialised uses of Italian in the business context
- To explore the areas of excellence of the Italian economy, in their local and global dimension
- To develop an understanding of the interaction between Italian economy, culture and society
Learning outcomes
On completion of the module, students should have a knowledge and understanding of the business culture in Italy, at the beginning of the 21st century, and they will show the ability to interact in reality-like situations in this context.
Students should be able to discuss the module topics critically in writing and orally, and to produce group/independent projects showing both their knowledge of the context and a proactive attitude towards the topics studied.
Skills outcomes
On completion of this module, students should be able to:
- Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
- Collect, evaluate and use information from secondary sources
- Use IT effectively, both as a means of communication and as an aid to learning
