Module summary

This module is aimed at you if you are a student interested in understanding the concept of leadership and how it can be applied to specific real-world examples.

Objectives

The aim of this module is to enable students to develop a theoretical and practical understanding of leadership models, to recognise their own experience of leadership and to develop their own leadership skills and knowledge. This module will complement, and build on the knowledge and skills gained in the other ‘Professional and Project' strand modules.

Learning outcomes
At the end of this module students will demonstrate knowledge and understanding of:
-what is meant by leadership and what makes a good leader
-the difference between leadership and management
-change management
-how to apply theoretical insights relating to leadership to employment situations
-how to reflect on their experiences of leadership
-skills required for the clear and accurate communication of ideas

Syllabus

The module will cover:

- The attributes of leaders
- The differences between management and leadership
- Personal leadership
- Leadership in relation to employment
- Ethics of leadership
- Change Management
- Leadership in a global context

The module will use case studies and specific examples to illustrate the concept of leadership.
