Module summary
This module has a practical focus where you engage with leading graduate employers to understand the skills and aptitudes employers look for and to develop the skills necessary to obtain work placements and internships. Much of the content and assessment focuses on the real applications that students are making, so it will be less useful for students who are not actively seeking work experience or an industry placement. Note: Finding a placement is not a requirement for passing this module. Module assessment is based on being able to evidence robust job seeking strategies; an understanding of the application process and being able to reflect on your experiences of the module. In order to progress on to a placement year students will normally need to have passed all level 1 modules with an average of 40 or more.Objectives
This module aims to provide students with the knowledge, skills and experience relevant to preparing for work placements or other employment-related opportunities.Learning outcomes
Upon completion of this module students will be able to:
- Formulate a job search strategy based on an understanding of opportunities available in the world of work
- Apply their knowledge and understanding of their own skills, values and interests and make informed judgements about the suitability of these in relation to opportunities
- Articulate these skills and experience coherently based on a knowledge and understanding of graduate employer requirements
- Reflect critically on their learning and experiences of job searching and identify how these will inform future practice
- Demonstrate commercial awareness in relation to a specific organisation and sector

Upon completion of this module students will be able to:

Syllabus
Indicative content
Lectures and interactive seminars by graduate employers and the module leader covering the key stages in the recruitment process, including making applications, being successful at interviews, dealing with assessment centres and developing a digital profile.

- Individual preparation, study and completion of assessment- NB This workload allowance will include some but not necessarily all of the time individual students spend on work placement search.
Opportunities for Formative Feedback
Students will receive formative feedback on the job search strategy and application questions.Workshops and lectures will include practical exercises and feedback on these which should be used by students to monitor their individual progress.
The Module Manager will be responsible for keeping an overview of the students involvement and engagement with the module elements.
