Module summary
Advanced finance is a capstone financial theory module building on the knowledge developed in levels one and two.Objectives
This module aims to provide students with an advanced understanding of financial and investment theory.Learning outcomes
Upon completion of this module students will be able to:
- Explain the essential principles of advanced finance and investment
- Critically evaluate topical developments in advanced finance using appropriate analytical tools and discuss some of the more challenging and contentious issues in the discipline

- Apply mathematical and statistical skills to problem solving scenarios
- Apply knowledge of current theory and appropriate analytical tools to solve complex financial problems

Private study
Students are required to undertake specified pre-reading and question preparation in advance of the classes based on the theoretical material introduced in the lectures. This includes some online pre-reading and formative questions. Students will also be required to conduct their own independent research in relation to an area of current theoretical debate to provide a real world context for their studies. In addition, students will be introduced to the practical application of the theoretical frameworks using the Bloomberg Professional Service Platform in the dedicated Trading Room.Opportunities for Formative Feedback
Students will be able to receive formative feedback on their work in the fortnightly academic seminars and two additional practical sessions in the Trading Room. In addition, students will have the opportunity to practice exam questions on the VLE (for which feedback will be provided) and submit practice exam answers for individual tutor feedback.Methods of assessment
