Syllabus

During practical classes in conference rooms, intensive practice of simultaneous interpreting will be carried out with tutors who are professional interpreters; this will involve the use of authentic material including speeches delivered by native speakers in a classroom on a variety of topics or pre-recorded speeches, including material from a number of international organisations.

A range of exercises aimed at developing good analysis, anticipation and compression skills as well as enunciation and generally good presentational skills will be offered to students. Pedagogical material produced by international organisations for training purposes will be used as self-study material or in the classroom.

Multilingual mock conferences conducted in a simultaneous mode form a major part of the training. During these conferences all the discussions are acted by native speakers who carry out thorough research in preparation for the debates. The topics discussed at such conferences emulate the variety of issues raised in government, non-government and international organisations as well as in business and commerce. Such training accurately corresponds to professional demands placed on interpreters.
