Module summary

This module focuses on developing skills and techniques for creating electronic music using the Ableton Live DAW. Typical areas of exploration include general elements of music production such as synthesis, sampling, automation and mixing, and more advanced topics such as field recording, FM and granular synthesis. An introduction to Max for Live allows students to develop new instruments and effects for Ableton using Max.

Objectives

On completion of this module, students should be able to ...

- Have developed to an advanced level the electronic music production and composition skills acquired in Year 1 via ELEC1875
- Begun to specialise in certain areas of media music creation
- Begun to co-ordinate their work in the DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) environment with practical work undertaken in the School of Music

Learning outcomes

- Deep Knowledge of specified DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) software
- Advanced experience of creative music practice through industry specific writing briefs
- Advanced music production skills in the electronic studio environment
