Objectives
On completion of this module, students should be able to write a coherent dissertation which builds on the concepts and methodologies developed during the course and which integrates his/her knowledge and experience.In addition, students should:
- establish a clear conceptual understanding of the work required to write the dissertation; perform a problem analysis;
- undertake a literature review and have carried out at least one literature review;
- identify the appropriate format and methodology to study his/her chosen topic.

Syllabus
The dissertation should concentrate on a specific topic within the remit of the MA. The topic is chosen by the student with the approval of the Programme Director.
There will be two strands to the work to be covered in this module. One will be a series of lectures/class exercises on topic definition, reviewing literature and academic writing. The other will be individual work based on meetings with the candidate's supervisor.

Opportunities for Formative Feedback
All dissertation topics are approved by the Programme Director, prior to the module starting. The Dissertation Supervisor has primary responsibility to monitor the progress of the student's schedule of activities and learning during the module. Students and supervisors agree written minutes of each supervision meeting. Individual feedback is provided when the Supervisors read and comment on drafts of all dissertation chapters during the module. The first literature review assignment is submitted early in the module, and students receive individual feedback and a mark around one third of the way through the module. Students also give a short oral presentation to their peers halfway through the module on their dissertation topic, with written peer feedback provided. Students complete an online plagiarism quiz, with an individual mark, feedback and follow-up support for low scorers.Methods of assessment
