Objectives
On completion of this module, the student will be able to understand the principles and practice of interpreting industry seismic reflection data, in both a general geological and structural context and in a detailed sequence-stratigraphic context - both on 2D paper sections and 3D workstation volumes.Syllabus
- Hand and computer contouring, borehole-to-surface seismic ties, synthetic seismograms and wavelet extraction, seismic volume and horizon attributes, conversion from two-way-time to depth.
- Seismic reflection interpretation presentation and report writing.
- Workstation practicals include – picking, loop-tying, miss-ties, contouring, incorporation of faults in to contour plots, well-ties, seismic attributes, depth-conversion.
- Stratigraphy principles, sequence analysis, facies analysis, character analysis, tectonic controls on sequence architecture; implications for facies distribution and prospectivity.
