Syllabus

This module will introduce students to a range of perspectives on personality development from early through to contemporary psychoanalytical theories. These will include developmental theories relating to the baby and young child with reference to implications for ongoing development across the life cycle. Specific reference will be made to the work of Freud, Jung, Klein, Winnicott, Fairbairn, Guntrip and Bowlby. There will also be a focus on concepts of self in psychodynamic and current person-centred theory, and a social constructivist concept of self will be explored.
