Objectives
On completion of this module students should be able to design and carry out simple ecological field research projects. Students will develop research proposals, conduct field work, analyse their data, and present their findings both in written form and in the form of a research seminar. The module will be sited abroad to provide exposure to a wide range of habitats helping provide experience in global ecological diversity.Syllabus
The ecology field course will take place in the international research station, so as to expose ecology students to a range of unfamiliar habitats and species. Students will work in small groups. Each group will choose a research topic from a list of options, or develop a topic of their own in consultation with the module manager. Each student will then do background reading relevant to the subject, and submit an individual literature review at the beginning of the field course. The research work will be carried out during the field course. At the end of the week, each team will present a seminar and a brief report outlining its findings.
