Objectives
On completion of this module, students should have a proficiency in basic Engineering Mathematics. To provide a mathematical basis for level 2 modules.Learning outcomes
On completion of this module students will be able to:
- perform partial differentiation of equations
- find solutions for second order differential equations
- understand and work with complex numbers
- define hyperbolic functions and differentiate them
- manipulate matricies and solve simultaneous equations using matrix methods.
Syllabus
- Complex numbers - arithmetic graphical representation, De Moivre's Theorem
- Hyperbolic functions - identities, differentiation
- Matricies - basic operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, transpose, inverse), eigenvalue problems, matrix method for simultaneous equations
- Review of differentiation and integration techniques
- Partial differentiation - simultaneous changes, rate of change problems
- Differential equations - solution of first and second order equations
- Partial differential equations.
