PEME5410M Polution Sampling and Analysis

This module is not approved as an Elective

Objectives

The module is designed to give the background theory and principles of operation of modern analytical instrumentation and their use in environmental and emission measurements.

Learning outcomes
By the end of this module you should have a sound knowledge of the underlying principles of the main instrumental chemical analysis used in pollution monitoring and measurement. You should understand the procedures for sampling and sample preparation and the chemical processes occurring in each instrument.

You will develop an appreciation of relevant health and safety issues when designing experimental procedures and when performing laboratory work including the use of personal protective equipment, appropriate waste disposal and sample collection and storage.

You will gain an understanding of the applications of the methods to a range of pollutants, develop your data processing skills as well as your researching and presentation skills.
