Objectives

To provide students with the knowledge and skills required for efficient utilisation and management of energy services in industrial and commercial applications.

Learning outcomes
By the end of this module, students will be able to:
- Understand the role of energy management and conservation.
- Apply the essential theories and methodologies for energy auditing and analysis.
- Design and conduct an energy utilization program.
- Be equipped with the knowledge and skills for carbon footprint reduction.
- Have a detailed understanding of the techniques and measures for energy management and conservation.

Skills outcomes
The students will develop the skills to perform an energy audit of an industrial process or commercial installation.


Syllabus

- Energy management techniques: Role of the Energy Manager. Energy audit. Energy analysis. Energy in buildings. Carbon audit.
- Boilers and combustion: Combustion control. High efficiency boilers.
- Industrial energy conservation: Waste heat recovery. Heat pump applications. Total energy systems (CHP). Furnace performance. Carbon savings and regulations (EU-ETS).
