Pre-requisite qualifications

Normally a good honours degree in civil engineering or a cognate discipline with project management experience.

This module is not approved as an Elective

Objectives

On completion of this module students should have acquired the following:
- understanding of the most common project management tools and techniques;
- knowledge of a range of issues that are currently facing the project manager; and
- awareness of a range of realistic situations that a successful project manager would have to manage and control.

Syllabus

General introduction to project management covering all phases of the project life cycle and including:
- project appraisal;
- project planning and control;
- procurement issues (such as collaborative working and contract strategy development);
- project cash flow and risk management.

All of these issues are addressed through a combination of lecture, tutorial and case study.
