Module summary

The module aims to develop an understanding of the implications of whole life management concepts on infrastructure asset management. It also introduces and explores the most common project management concepts, tools and techniques. It focuses on the relationships between Capital Investment Delivery, Maintenance, Renewal and Disposal.

On completion of this module, students should be able to ...

- An understanding of the implications of whole life management concepts on infrastructure asset management;

- Understanding of the most common project management tools and techniques;

- Understanding the relationships between Capex and Opex

Learning outcomes
The module aims to develop an understanding of the implications of whole life management concepts on infrastructure asset management. It also introduces and explores the most common project management concepts, tools and techniques.

* Understanding capital investment, maintenance and disposal.


Syllabus

* The concept of whole life management (WLM);
* The concept and discipline of infrastructure asset management;
* The management of infrastructure programmes and projects;
* Technical and managerial issues in WLM - Introduction to ISO 55000 and TAM;
* Value and risk compromises in whole life management - OPEX and CAPEX considerations;
* Relationships between Capital Investment, Maintenance, Renewal and Disposal.

Private study

Private study includes an additional 13 hours of case study work (group) to prepare case study presentation. Critical appraisal of the case study requires 10 hours additional work. Review of literature for the report is 40 hours. Problem analysis and final report writing 30 hours.
