- demonstrate a familiarity with a range of techniques for the production of textiles;
- demonstrate the ability to undertake visual research and interpret their findings in a way relevant to textile design and production;
- communicate the results of their work using both written and visual languages.
Skills outcomes
Hand and machine knit techniques, embroidered textiles techniques, including the construction of three dimensional structures.
Syllabus
This module introduces students to two specialist areas of textile design:
- knitted textiles
- three dimensional textiles
Students will:
- Undertake a visual research project in which they will use original images for inspiration;
- be given a theoretical introduction to fibre and yarn as part of the lecture programme;
- also be introduced to the practical techniques through demonstrations and, during the studio sessions, will produce design collections for each specialism based on their visual research.
The module will be assessed by the submission of a sketchbook containing visual research and a technical file documenting the practical competencies developed and a design collection for each specialism undertaken.
