Module summary
The purpose of this module is to introduce students to a range of production and research methods used in the preparation of the Level Three Dissertation proposal and document.Objectives
The objectives of this module are to:-provide a complete overview of the Dissertation project and process
-demonstrate all aspects of the document production process
-analyse and interrogate research processes and practices relevant to dissertation production
Learning outcomes
On completion of this module, students will have provided evidence of being able to:
- produce a logically developed, coherent analysis and interpretation of research resources based on research in written and in verbal form
- produce a proposal and plan for the production of the dissertation
- identify a range of bibliographic sources and archival resources relevant to the production of the dissertation
Syllabus
This module takes the dissertation apart and leads the students through each stage of its production week by week. The module builds on the previous partner module Research Methods 1: Finding and Using Research Resources and put this into practice. In addition the modules examines writing techniques, research methods and resources in the context of the research plan for dissertation production.

Private study
Independent online learning is facilitated by a website resource of slides and readings, which allows student to explore in more detail topics signposted in the lectures, and gain familiarity with key ideas.Private study includes set reading, further reading, preparation for proposal workshops and preparation of the assignment. The assignment asks students to prepare a Dissertation Proposal Document and outline plan of content.
