Objectives
This module will present students with an understanding of how materials choices influence product properties for outdoor and sporting goods.The module will provide an understanding of how the properties of final products may be engineered to match end use requirements by careful choice of material, processing route and sturcture made earlier in the production process.
Learning outcomes
On completion of this module, students should have provided evidence of being able to:
- demonstrate a broad understanding of materials and technologies used in sports and outdoor activities and their applications;
- appreciate and appropriately employ testing methods appropriate for sporting applications.
Syllabus
The module explores the essential, desirable and undesirable probperties of products used in sports and outdoor activities. Students will learn how changes in product construction may change performance and how materials and products are engineered to meet end-user requirements.
The practical sessions introduce standard test methods for sports and performance materials and their appropriate application.
