Syllabus

This notional course encompasses the clinical aspects of the various elements of year one. It provides entry to the central core of clinical experience which is to be developed throughout the programme, ultimately leading to competence as a graduating dental surgeon. Students will be exposed to the clinical environment from the earliest stages of the programme where they will be able to apply basic skills of communication, examination and diagnosis. In addition, experience will be gained in the core areas of basic life support, infection control, local anaesthesia and impression materials. The course will provide an opportunity to work with and support other members of the dental team. Further experience, for example in relation to the role of health promotion, will be gained in outreach settings.
