Syllabus
The course aims to introduce core elements of Human Disease that are essential to the planning and delivery of oral health care. It provides a foundation for courses in years 3 and 4 ('Illness and Wellbeing' and 'Human Disease'). Reference will be made to specific guidelines and frameworks for good clinical practice. There is emphasis on minimizing risk of adverse events to both the patient and members of the oral health care team. However, students will also gain an appreciation of the limitations of measures designed to reduce risk. Insight into the clinical topics under consideration will be informed by understanding of relevant pathophysiological events. The medical emergency topics will build upon level 1, prepare students for level 3 and give students the opportunity to refresh their Basic Life Support skills.
