Objectives

This module introduces students to the principles ofmobile applications development.

The module will focus on one design environment and operating system but students will learn the broad principles so that they are able to apply their learning to other platforms.

Learning outcomes
On completion of this module students should be able to:
- Analyse a problem and develop an appropriate methodology for solving it with software.
- Program using object-oriented techniques.
- Define and develop data structures and algorithms appropriate for a given task.
- Design user-friendly GUIs.
- Write programs, test & debug them using a contemporary integrated design environment (IDE) and software development kit (SDK).
- Develop applications that interface software with hardware on a mobile platform.
- Be able to apply project management techniques to successfully carrry out a large independent piece of work and submit it in a timely and organised manner.

Skills outcomes
Mobile applications development and interfacing with embedded systems and electronics.

Private study

Students will be expected to work through a series of examples at the start to develop their confidence and understanding. They will then carry out an independent project to design and develop an application of their choosing.

Opportunities for Formative Feedback

Progress will be monitored via the laboratory sessions, mid semester assignment and through the keeping of an online progress journal.
