Module summary

Elementary 10 credits Italian is for students who have completed a beginners module and/or spent some time in Italy and have reached CEFR A1 or equivalent and want to improve their Italian but have only 10 credits spare. The focus is on achieving a reasonable level of communication and accuracy in speaking, listening, reading and writing and a deeper understanding of Italian culture. You will develop your speaking skills in particular.

Objectives

To consolidate knowledge of Italian at beginners level and develop skills and competence towards CEFR A2 level/equivalent. On completion of the module students should be able to identify the main language points in familiar contexts and hold conversations in Italian on the topics covered. They should feel confident in using their Italian and in accessing a variety of authentic resources. Students should also develop a deeper awareness of Italian culture.

Learning outcomes
On completion of the module students should be able to:
- Make themselves understood by a native speaker over a range of everyday topics
- Read texts of a reasonable length
- Understand the main points of clear, standard speech on familiar matters regularly encountered in daily life, in work and at university, and be able to understand the main points of audio-visual material when the delivery is at a reasonable pace
- Describe experiences and impressions orally and in writing
- Demonstrate greater understanding of key grammar points with appropriate usage
- Demonstrate awareness of cultural and linguistic differences between the use of Italian and English
