Module summary
This is the core compulsory module for all Level Three students on BA German and BA Joint Honours programmes involving German, but it may also be taken as an Discovery module by students who have completed Core Language 2 (GERM 2030/2031) and fulfilled the requirements for progression to Level 3 in German. The module aims to build on the grasp of German acquired in the earlier level core modules and to ensure that students come as close as their abilities and application allow to a near-native command of contemporary German across a variety of registers, encompassing speaking and writing skills in a range of situations.The module is taught by means of two hours of written classes and one oral class per week, and is assessed via an oral examination and a written examination at the end of the year and one piece of coursework in semester 2. Building on the skills and knowledge acquired in GERM 1030 and 2030/2031 to develop students’ knowledge and reading, writing, listening and speaking skills relevant to a variety of communicative situations.Learning outcomes

- Knowledge of German grammar relevant for advanced communication skills in German.

Syllabus
Module handbook and materials with relevant material provided. Most texts, tasks and exercises are chosen with a view to preparing students to function at an appropriate level in a German-speaking environment or in a professional context involving German skills.
