Module summary
Note for incoming study abroad student: This module is primarily focused on social work training in the UK and within UK lawObjectives
- To analyse the extent of drug and alcohol use in England and Wales and to set this in an international context.- To analyse a range of current interventions, theory and policy around drugs and alcohol, including the law, risk assessment and management of risk.
- To analyse the impact of drugs and alcohol on child welfare, adults and minority groups.
Learning outcomes
On completion of the module student will be able;
1. To analyse the extent of drug and alcohol use in England and Wales and contextualise this internationally.
2. To evaluate current policy and law in relation to alcohol and drug use.
3. To evaluate a range of theoretical perspectives in working with drugs and alcohol in social work
4. To analyse the impact of drugs and alcohol on children and adults in social work practice.
5. To explain the structural context of alcohol and drug use and the impact of this on anti-oppressive practice with service users and carers.
6. To analyse the role of drugs and alcohol when working with sex workers, issues of sexual exploitation and sexual violence.
