Pre-requisite qualifications

- A first degree (minimum 2.1)
- Evidence of study of research methodology at Level 3 or Level M

This module is not approved as an Elective

Objectives

This module introduces the researcher who is familiar with a basic understanding of quantitative and qualitative research to the principles of combining qualitative and quantitative methods in imaginative ways.

Learning outcomes
On successful completion of this module students should be able to:
1) discuss the philosophical assumptions of mixed methodology;
2) design a mixed methods study;
3) differentiate between mixed and multi method research;
4) demonstrate critical awareness of quality in mixed methods research.

- Introduction to Personal Construct Theory and Q sort methodology.

- Students will need to prepare for critical appraisal session by reviewing set papers
- Work in groups to design a study around a given topic.

Opportunities for Formative Feedback

All students will be given the opportunity to present and receive feedback on their assignment proposals.
