Module summary

This module aims to contribute towards innovation taking health and social care practice and policy forward with service users/ carers. It emphasises evaluation throughout the innovation lifecycle and uses current outcome to anticipate projected outcome following innovation impact. Evaluation of past practice in relation to the present enables evaluation of the implementation of an innovation, which is designed to address unmet or emerging needs. This will enable health and social care students to transfer international evaluation, research, clinical, commercial and theoretical knowledge through innovation. Such developments will be aimed at benefiting users and carers in varying contexts and countries within multi-agency health and social settings whilst embracing an enterprise orientation.

Objectives

On completion of the module students should be able to:
- critically appraise international research and evidence informing and improving practice and policy regarding a selected innovation;
- exhibit in-depth knowledge of the theoretical underpinnings and commercial potential of innovative ideas
- demonstrate input of partners and service users/ carers to devise potential routes and applications into global markets for a selected innovation
- critically evaluate and synthesise the potential impact of an innovation or enterprise on health and social care provision;
- critically evaluate the spectrum of implementation methods
- critically evaluate the spectrum of evaluation methods
- design a framework to implement a selected innovation.
- design an evaluation to measure outcomes across the innovation lifecycle.
