Module summary
This module introduces students to assessment tools and practice skills in the assessment of substance misuse problems.Objectives
This module aims to give students a working knowledge of:- drug and alcohol effects
- assessment and screening tools used in the field - skills to complete a comprehensive assessment
- care planning
- motivational interviewing micro skills
- reflective practice
Learning outcomes
On completion of this module students should be able to:
- reflect on the effectiveness of their practice using a relevant knowledge base;
- demonstrate an adherence to professional values and to the provision of ethically sound practice;
- describe the range of commonly misused substances in the UK;
- understand the effects of drugs and alcohol on individuals;
- carry out screening and referral assessment;
- assess and act upon immediate risk of danger to service user;
- contribute to care planning and review;
- generate appropriate referrals for additional support;
- help service users address thier substance use through an action plan
