Module summary

This module will provide you with a foundation in the theory and practice of HRM allowing you to engage critically with developments in the world of work. It begins with an exploration of HRM and of the various theoretical perspectives for examining work before exploring key topics.

Objectives

To allow the student to develop an understanding of the strategic nature of human resource management and the impact this has across a range of organisational contexts.

Learning outcomes
On completion of the module you will be able to:
-Explain the nature of human resource management
-Evaluate human resource management techniques including planning, recruitment, selection and performance management.
-Examine the changing nature of work and the contemporary employment relationship.

Skills outcomes
Ability to:
- critically evaluate human resource techniques;
- critically analyse the nature of the work environment.
