Objectives

The purpose of this module is to examine perspectives and policy in relation to work-based settings. In particular:
1. To understand the diversity of perspectives on education & their theoretical underpinning
2. To explore the process of policy development in education
3. To identify and evaluate education delivery models
4. To analyse the impact of delivery models on educational achievement

Learning outcomes
On completion of the module students will have a knowledge of the following in relation to work-based settings:
-Education philosophies, e.g. functionalist, conflict, liberal
-The origins of, & reasons for, a range of education policies
-The range of education delivery models, e.g. academies, free schools, Steiner Schools,

Private study

Key concepts will be introduced each week and students will be expected to explore these further through reading and reflecting on their personal experience in an education/training/learning support setting.

Opportunities for Formative Feedback

Students will be monitored informally in terms of their understanding of the key concepts introduced throughout the module. Formative feedback will be provided on student assignments. Formal monitoring will be via tutorials built into the seminars to support preparation for summative assessment.
