Objectives

The module will introduce students to the research methods and skills required to undertake a small-scale research project in relation to children, young people and families.

Learning outcomes
On completion of this module, students will:
- have developed a sound understanding of a range of quantitative and qualitative research methods and be able to evaluate critically their effectiveness
- be able to apply confidently and effectively research approaches in the workplace
- be able to plan effectively a small-scale work-related research project
-demonstrate their understanding of the ethics of research into children, young people and families
- show appreciation of the global and cultural dimension of their research proposal

Syllabus

The module will introduce students to a wide range of qualitative and quantitative research methods. The module will explore the setting of research questions and will consider the ethical challenges of research in the work-base.
-Opportunity to draw on ongoing work experience and to apply and test learning in the work setting.

The practicalities of carrying out research will be considered as will the analysing and writing up of research data.
