Module summary

If you have ever wondered how you come to be the person you are, then this module will be of interest. It should enable you to understand the multi-faceted nature of your identity and how by unpacking the various aspects, a picture of your own learner identity emerges. This then should enable you to better understand learners or others with whom you may work in future.

Objectives

The module aims to provide an opportunity to explore issues around the construction of identity through taking an interdisciplinary approach. Perspectives will include: psychological, sociological, anthropological, historical and cultural in order to evaluate the significance of these on learner identities. .

Learning outcomes
You will be able to:
Evaluate critically a range of perspectives on identity and their implications for supporting learning;
Understand the key debates in learning and different ways of knowing;
Use interdisciplinary perspectives to understand how identities are constructed;
Evaluate the effect diversity may have on forming identity;
Create an autobiographical report and reflective journal on your learning journey.

Syllabus

Explore a range of perspectives on identity and key debates in learning. Use these approaches to understand how learner identities are constructed. You will then create an autobiographical report and reflective journal on your learning journey and identity.
