Module summary

Operations management explores the way in which an organisation efficiently deploys resources in order to produce goods and services. The module will introduce you to real operational issues experienced by organisations and help you to develop and understanding of how these can be effectively addressed.

Objectives

This module aims to provide students with knowledge and expertise in managing operations and processes. It assesses and solves contemporary operations and supply chains problems via the application of contemporary operations management and supply chain management theories, models and tools.

Learning outcomes
On completion of this module you will be able to:
- Evaluate different operations management philosophies from a theoretical perspective
- Critically examine operations management techniques to solve practical business problems
- Analyse an organisations operations by applying theories and models of operations management

Skills outcomes
Ability to:
- Produce analyses to address contemporary operations and supply chain problems
- Apply accurately, in the appropriate context, strategic and operational analysis skills to a range of manufacturing, service and creative economy operations

Key learning is developed through seminar activities to apply related theories and tools for assessing various operations and supply chain problems in various sectors (public sector, manufacturing and service sectors).
