Module summary
This module introduces you to major issues in international management and major theoretical contributions in this area as well as the empirical work on which these contributions rest. It also examines their practical applications. We will be exploring key issues in cross-cultural management and we will identify and explore important areas of contemporary controversy in the management of multinational activity (e.g., corruption). All this will be illustrated using real and emerging examples, and using participative exercises (role-plays, seminars, case studies) to enhance your cultural experience and knowledge and for you to benefit from being a member of the multinational student group.Objectives
The objective of this module is to introduce students to major issues in international management; to discuss major theoretical contributions in this area, the empirical work on which these contributions rest, and the practical applications. It will also provide students with the tools to explore key issues in cross-cultural management; identify and explore important areas of contemporary controversy in the management of multinational activity; illustrate the above using real and emerging examples, and allow the cultural experience and knowledge of the multinational student group to inform the previous objectives using participative exercises (role-plays, seminars, case studies).Learning outcomes
Upon completion of this module students will be able to:
- Evaluate the concept of culture and its importance in international business, including key theoretical dimensions of culture and their practical applications
- Apply the work of cultural theorists as a means of studying and understanding cultural issues in international management and evaluate how cross-cultural issues impact upon the management of business functions across national borders
- Assess particular aspects of recent cross-cultural research and apply these to illustrate and account for cultural differences when taking managerial decisions
- Assess and outline MNEs Organization and Structure and the role of institutions

Major theoretical approaches to international management and their application to specific examples; national culture and management; Cross-cultural negotiations; Expatriate Management; Leadership in the International Context; MNEs Organization and Structure; The Role of Institutions; Corruption around the World and its impact on the conduct of Business.
