Objectives

This module aims to equip participants to apply the conceptual insights and practical techniques they have acquired in the analysis of real-life problems with which contemporary organisations have to deal. The module introduces a set of concepts and techniques for analysing some of the more salient human resource problems confronting contemporary organisations and identifies some of the theoretical and technical issues arising from research literature.

Learning outcomes
Upon completion of this module students will be able to:
- Explain the theory and practice of strategic HRM, and the role of the HR manager within strategic decision making
- Critically evaluate the potential for HR to impact upon performance, and the realities of the HR-performance relationship
- Recognise the potential and limitations of big data in strategic HRM
- Evaluate the role of talent management within an integrated approach towards managing the employment cycle
- Extend the concept of talent management to a comparative context and in multi-national firms
- Relate concepts from strategic HRM and talent management policy and theory to their own experiences of work in organisations

Skills outcomes
Upon completion of this module students will be able to:

- Use knowledge for effective problem solving and decision making

- Apply cognitive skills of critical thinking, analysis and synthesis to evaluating the main theoretical models of HRM
