Module summary

The nature of innovative companies is changing significantly. Grand social challenges like sustainability, environment, health and education create entrepreneurial opportunities as well as challenges for innovation. Managers at innovative companies are challenged to integrate knowledge globally, understand social trends and respond to ethical challenges exposed by advances in technology.

Objectives

This module prepares you to lead innovation initiatives in large and established organizations as well as in new and growing ventures. The module navigates between different concepts and perspectives in order to unveil how organizations take strategic advantage from incremental and radical changes in products, services, business models and societal aspirations. The content is based on combination of interactive lectures, intensive case study discussions, guest lecturers from corporate world, independent readings and group work.
Students attending this module will:
- have a thorough insight into the process of innovation;
- recognize strategic importance of innovation;
- be able to link innovation with strategy and entrepreneurship;
- be aware of different types of innovation and interactions among them;
- be able to identify different pitfalls for managing discontinuous innovation.

Learning outcomes
Students will be able to:
- link theory and practice by applying conceptual tools for thinking;
- use conceptual knowledge to analyse case studies and learn by using analogical reasoning;
- apply knowledge in order to solve practical problems and formulate and implement innovation strategy;
- work and learn in teams;
- analytically underpin the decision-making process related to innovation management.

Designing innovative organizations, championing innovation within an organization, leading innovation initiatives and projects.
