Pre-requisite qualifications
In order to be able to take this module students must be enrolled on a participating LUBS masters programme and must satisfy the academic criteria for acceptance to study at one of LUBS PG exchange partners. (This will normally require students to have passed all their modules with an average of at least 65.)The chosen host country must not be a country where the student has previously lived, worked or studied
Must complete all modules of the participating LUBS masters programme with a minimum grade of 65.

Module summary
Students taking this module will spend a semester studying at a LUBS International PG Exchange Partner Institution after completion of all elements of the MSc International Business programme. This module adds a 3rd semester and successful completion of this module will result in students being awarded the programme variant MSc International Business ( With Study Abroad). Entry to the module is competitive and students are only eligible to apply for acceptance onto it if they meet the pre-requisite requirements (detailed elsewhere on this form). Students may only study at one of our carefully selected Partner Institutions. They do not have free choice of destination.Objectives
To enable students to live and study in a country that they have not previously lived, worked or studied in order to:- Develop global insight in unfamiliar and diverse cross-cultural environments beyond that which they have experienced on the MSc International Business programme.
- Broaden knowledge and deepen learning of International Business linked subjects
- Gain a deeper understanding of the country in which they are studying and improve foreign language skills (in exchanges where the language is not English)
Learning outcomes
- Adopt suitable strategies to cope with a significant change in the environment and demonstrate adaptation to a new culture and learning paradigm
- Apply theoretical knowledge of culturally diverse behaviour norms acquired through the MSc International Business programme in an international context
- Analyse and interpret their responses to overcoming challenges, developing resilience, & adapting to new environments
- Communicate how they might transfer their learning to enhance their employability
- Demonstrate a broader understanding and knowledge of business and it international context
Syllabus
Pre-departure input to the period of Study Abroad is the same as it is for UG Study Abroad in that it is focused on practical advice and information regarding health and safety, behavioural expectations etc.
Students are also briefed on the reflective assignments they will have to complete for the module to ensure that there is a common understanding of the level of work required. Students will also have completed the Professional Skills module (5903M) on the MSc International Business, which incorporates a written reflective assignment and teaches reflective learning. This module will expect a deepening of skill in this area.
Subject specific content will depend on the topics they choose to enrol on at their host institution. Students must choose topics which are strongly related to Masters level International Business and which will broaden or deepen their knowledge in this area.
If available, students should take some local language and/or cultural courses when agreed with the module leader. All topics should usually be taken from the equivalent Masters level programme at the host institution and will be subject to the approval of the module leader or their designated representative.

Private study
Sufficient private study and independent learning to meet the assessment requirements of their host institution.Additionally, students are expected to seek experiences to improve their personal development. They should reflect on these experiences and analyse what personal strengths and weaknesses are being highlighted or addressed through them.
Students should set personal goals and execute action plans to enhance strengths and improve weaknesses. Where appropriate, they should seek the help and advice of peers and tutors in both the host institution and at home to advance personal development goals. They should identify barriers to personal skill development and behavior change and find ways to overcome those barriers.
Students are expected to record their learning in an ongoing journal, including, where appropriate, evidence that they have been able to apply relevant theories of cross-cultural working gained during their studies on the International Business programme.
Opportunities for Formative Feedback
As an Exchange student, they will receive the support and guidance of their host institution for their academic study. They will be expected to abide by all the attendance and assessment requirements of their host country and their host institution.Additionally, students will have email access to support staff at LUBS and the central study abroad team.
Students will complete 2 video presentations during their time at their host institution which will enable the module leader to monitor their progress on other learning outcomes.

Oral presentation - Scheduled to take place mid-term during time abroad with agreed check-in date. Final submission due by the end of week 13 in the LUBS calendar. Re-sit arrangements: The resit for this module will be oral video presentation.
