Syllabus

Students take a course of individual instrumental or vocal lessons with a specialist teacher. In addition, all students attend a course of performance classes, with opportunities for solo and ensemble work. Students must contribute performances to these classes. In addition students must attend the two workshops on specific areas of historical performance practice. There will be some opportunities to perform in the masterclass part of each workshop. Performance classes may occasionally be interspersed with other relevant presentations.

Private study

Students are expected to spend time researching, choosing, and learning repertoire for their instrument or voice. They are also expected to practice all aspects of stagecraft for their performances.

Typically, a successful student on this module will spend approximately 18 or more hours each week in a practice room, as well as time at concerts (performing and listening), in libraries, listening to recordings, etc.

Opportunities for Formative Feedback

This is done primarily through the assessment of the quality of their performances in class, but also through reports from their specialist instrumental or vocal teacher. In most cases it is also informally monitored in rehearsals with the Repetiteur. These provide additional opportunities for feedback in both directions.

[Late payment will cause deduction of marks in the usual manner]. Full resit is not available because further instrumental lessons and classes will not be provided. Students will still be able to pass the module on resit by being assessed purely on the recital.
