Objectives

To develop a knowledge and understanding of social issues in psychiatric practice.

Learning outcomes
1. Understand the basic sociology and ethics relevant to the practice of psychiatry.
2. Understand the concepts and practicalities of health service management.


Syllabus

- The history of psychiatry

- Social inequality, stigma, illness and behaviour, and cultural factors and their relationship with mental health

- Basic ethics and philosopy of psychiatry

- Service users' issues

- How the NHS is organised and managed
