Objectives

To develop skills in searching for and appraising medical literature

Learning outcomes
Develop search strategies to identify relevant literature.

Review critically research papers in psychiatry.

Recognise whether good or poor evidence exists for clinical activities.


Syllabus

Literature searching using computerised databases and reference management (using online self-directed resource). Published research papers are reviewed, comprising the main kinds of psychiatric research strategy: surveys, incidence studies, prognosis studies, ecological studies, case-control studies, cohort analytic studies, clinical trials and overviews (including systematic reviews and meta-analyses). Research ethics and governance.

Opportunities for Formative Feedback
