Module summary

The module will provide the opportunity for students to develop and undertake a small audit/service evaluation related to their area of clinical practice This module allows students to design, negotiate and manage their own study relevant to their area of clinical practice. If the student wishes to also undertake either the Diagnostic Imaging Dissertation and/or the Clinical Practice Evidence Review module(s) the topic chosen for each module must have a completely different emphasis and be related to a different issue in clinical practice. All projects must be agreed with the module leader prior to commencement.

Objectives

Students design and undertake a small audit / service evaluation focused on a theme, topic or investigation, which directly relates to their working circumstances and previous experience

Learning outcomes
The module will provide the opportunity to design and undertake a small project related to your area of clinical practice
On completion of this module, you will be able to:
-identify an appropriate audit / service evaluation related to clinical practice
-critically evaluate literature relating to the project
-provide a rationale for undertaking the project
-design an effective methodology and undertake the study
-communicate the project outcomes appropriately

Skills outcomes
On completion of this module students will be able to
- Identify, design and undertake an appropriate audit/service evaluation project related to clinical practice


Syllabus

The module gives students the opportunity design and undertake a small audit/service evaluation related to their area of practice subject to SoMREC approval. The study will be undertaken in their clinical department and approval for this must be gained from the Trust R & D department before starting the module. Any project requiring full NRES approval cannot be undertaken in this module.
-The project will be autonomously managed by the student with support from university and clinical staff
-Learning takes place without direct instruction or formal tuition and students are expected to take full responsibility for carrying out the project and learning will take place as an associated activity
-It involves people managing their own learning through designing and undertaking a small project aimed at enhancing personal and professional development.
