Module summary
This module will introduce students the demands of pre-production and post-production in contemporary film and video. Students will appreciate the key relationship between these two development stages. Through the creation of a three-minute video, students will gain an understanding of how to plan a cogent story; how to put such a plan into practice through practical filming techniques; and how to structurally organise raw footage into a coherent visual narrative which can then be screened and viewed in a professional environment. Objectives
The aim of the module is to provide the students with an understanding and appreciation of the fundamental concepts and principles of video editing and narrative structure in contemporary moving image. Seminars and lectures will discuss accepted conventions within film editing practices and explore how these are used effectively to tell stories and persuade audiences within present day communication media.Building on this formal understanding of editing approaches, a more experimental appreciation of research, storyboarding and creative planning will offer students the ability to develop a unique form of expression within the medium of film and video.
