Syllabus

Through a series of lectures and discussions the module explores a number of very particular changes in attitudes and approaches to international art, craft and design practice. Over the course of the last twenty years we are able to discern a number of very particular changes in attitudes and approaches to art, craft and design practices and production. This has affected artists, craftspeople and designers, their outputs, and the museums galleries and curators who represent and present their work. In addition with the emergence of digital practices during the late 1990s art, craft and design materiality, production, distribution and reception have been radically redrawn. The role of the ‘artist’, ‘craftsperson’ and ‘designer’ is interrogated, as are the new definitions of these roles that emerge during this period.
