Objectives
Building on the theoretical grounding introduced in DESN1355 and DESN1375, the purpose of this module is to introduce students to the fashion forecasting sector of the industry, the fundamentals of the trend forecasting processes and the opportunity to apply these principles in a practical manner for a named fashion company.Learning outcomes
On completion of this module the student will be able to:
• Demonstrate a sound understanding of the fashion forecasting sector and its role in the industry
• Identify a range of style and consumer lifestyle trends past and present
• Develop trend communications and reports for a fashion-related product / industry sector
• Interpret trend forecasting information for fashion product design

Syllabus
This module assists students in developing a in-depth understanding of the trend forecasting process and the role of this specialist sector in the fashion and textile industries and in the broader fashion context and related industries. A comprehensive understanding of the trend forecasting sector and process will result from a series of lectures and practical sessions. Students will develop a good understanding of concept presentation and trend stories within the context of the fashion business strategy. Each will be able to identify, interpret and analyse trends in relation to design and also consumer lifestyles for fashion-related product industries.

Opportunities for Formative Feedback
Continuous monitoring of Student progress through:• Regular attendance at lectures and practical sessions
• Indiuvidual and peer feedback and reflection. Group discussions about the conduct of the practical work. Group presentations are used to ensure progress in made in the weekly practical classes.
• Feedback will be communicated to students through a discussion of their work with focused targets agreed at each meeting.
