Students will respond to set briefs and present their designs visually and verbally. The key emphasis will be on the core of creative projects, digital production and evaluation skills for print, web, interactive, video, and mobile.design practice, including: bitmap and vector graphics production, page design and layout toolset, motion graphics and visual effects, as well as designing interactions. Objectives
This module gives students the opportunity to:- Acquire digital design skills and understand processes of digital design.
- Use main digital platforms and software essential for the practice of design in general and human-centred design specifically.
- Develop effective and creative design solutions using digital design.
- Understand how to develop design concepts and formulate processes for bringing design concepts to life.
Learning outcomes
On completion of this module, students will have provided evidence of being able to:
1. Proactively negotiate, develop and evaluate (usability test) concepts to a set brief and deadline.
2. Formulate processes to visualise these concepts using digital media.
3. Present concepts, evaluation, refinement and final design solution effectively displaying technical competence and skills.

Private study
To gain confidence to develop and articulate their own ideas, students will engage in private study. Each lecture is supported by material that is available on the Blackboard VLE. This material provides links to appropriate journal papers, books, videos and websites. Digital copies of the lectures will be also available on the VLE so that students can follow up in a systematic and structured manner.
Students will bring and discuss their ideas to the lectures, allowing them to gain confidence in their own critical thinking. Students will also be asked to find and provide design examples to show their understanding of the theoretical content addressed in the lectures.
- Literature search and reading: 40 hours
- Independent research and preparation: 50 hours
- Preparation of visual, written and verbal assessed outcomes: 89 hours
Opportunities for Formative Feedback
Student progress will be monitored through:- Regular attendance at lectures, practical classes and tutorials (absences dealt with through the normal School channels).
- Participation in lectures and practical classes.
- Feedback in seminars and tutorials.
